WA Near-miss Awards 2021

The WA Near-miss Awards (WANMA) funding program provides support for outstanding emerging Western Australian researchers to transform their National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) near-miss application into a future NHMRC grant success. The WANMA program builds on the former Merit Award program, which was funded by the Department of Health.

The program is accepting applications from early- and mid-career researchers who have applied to the NHMRC funding programs listed below and have been found to be ‘fundable’ but were not funded (known as a near-miss) and who meet WANMA-specific eligibility criteria.

  • Ideas Grants 2020 Round
  • Investigator Grants 2020 Round – Emerging Leadership streams 1 and 2.

Up to $95,000 is being made available for each eligible near-miss application. However, the two highest ranked eligible Investigator Grant near-misses from each Emerging Leadership stream will be offered funding to the value of their NHMRC application until at least 31 December 2022.

While this program is now closed to applications, the WANMA 2021 Guidelines and Conditions and WANMA 2021 Application Form can be accessed below for reference:
