WA Near-miss Awards - Emerging Leaders Program

The 2023-24 WA Near-Miss Awards (WANMA) Emerging Leaders was a Program of the Future Health Research and Innovation (FHRI) Fund.

WANMA targeted researchers who narrowly missed out on securing a National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) grant, investigator grant.  

The program aimed to accelerate the careers of emerging WA researchers and to build the research capacity of WA in a sustainable way.

The WANMA Emerging Leaders program was open to Western Australian early or mid-career health and medical researchers who received a near-miss result in the NHMRC Investigator Grants funding round, with a minimum score of 4.5 (equivalent to a category 5 score). The applicant apply to the NHMRC Investigator Grants Program in future rounds.
