Funding awarded to enrich health and medical research and build strong collaborations for the future
A total of $25 million has been awarded to 19 Western Australian health and medical research entities to support the indirect and operational costs associated with research.
Through the Research Infrastructure Support (RIS) program Medical Research Institutes, universities and hospitals have received:
- a share of Stream 1 funding that is commensurate with their portion of the States research grant income received, to fund the indirect costs of research that are not usually provided for by research grants, and
- a share of Stream 2 funding that reflects the costs associated with operating shared research equipment, facilities and services.
RIS Stream 1 grants can be used for costs associated with items such as research support staff, minor equipment and publication costs and RIS Stream 2 grants support the operation of existing facilities, equipment and services in order for those facilities, equipment and services to be made more accessible to the broader health and medical research community.
