A total of $25 million has been awarded to 20 Western Australian organisations, including universities, medical research institutes and hospitals, to help them fund research infrastructure and meet the indirect costs of health and medical research.

The Future Health Research and Innovation (FHRI) Fund Research Infrastructure Support (RIS) 2026 program provided funding across two streams to support eligible Responsible Entities to meet the indirect costs of health and medical research, with a focus on research infrastructure.

Stream 1 grants provided grants for general indirect costs of health and medical research that are not linked to specific projects.

Stream 2 grants provided grants for operational costs of shared health and medical research facilities, equipment and services.

Grants up to $10 million were provided across both streams.

Recipients received a share of a $25 million funding pool based on their eligible research income and the amount of research-enabling facilities that they share with at least 3 external organisations.
