$2 million funding boost for WA cohort studies

The State Government’s Future Health Research and Innovation (FHRI) Fund has awarded $2 million in grants to some of the most impactful cohort studies in Western Australia based on demonstrable competitive excellence.
The Future Health Research and Innovation (FHRI) Fund’s WA Cohort Studies – Operational Support Program (WACS-OSP) enables cohort studies to continue their contributions to the delivery of clinical outcomes, changes to health policy and translational health outcomes.
The WACS-OSP recipients are shown below:

Cancer Blood Biomarkers Study | Edith Cowan University | Aims to identify biomarkers for cancer in blood and other bodily fluids, to enable personalised cancer monitoring and treatment. | $125,028 |
The ORIGINS Project | Telethon Kids Institute on behalf of The University of Western Australia | Studies pregnant women, their partners and children to improve infant, child and adult health outcomes. | $500,000 |
PLAY Spaces and Environments for Children’s Physical Activity Study (PLAYCE) Cohort | Telethon Kids Institute on behalf of The University of Western Australia | Examines how physically active young children are in WA, and how childhood environments influence physical activity, health, and development. | $147,652 |
The Raine Study | The University of Western Australia | Aims to improve lifelong health and quality of life, through research examining the determinants, influences, and outcomes from birth and throughout the life course. | $452,143 |
Western Australian Paediatric Oncology Cohort | Telethon Kids Institute on behalf of The University of Western Australia | Clinical samples and data are collected from children diagnosed with cancer in WA, allowing researchers and oncologists to work together to develop more effective and safer treatments for childhood cancers. | $275,175 |
