Innovation Fellowships to upskill WA health and medical innovators

A total of $1,063,587 ex GST has been awarded to Western Australian innovators through the Innovation Fellowships 2024 program.

This program provides Fellowships to talented Western Australians to enable them to develop innovative early-stage processes, products and/or services that address a problem that arises from an unmet health or medical need or opportunity in Western Australia.

The program is funded by the Future Health Research and Innovation Fund which provides a secure source of funding to drive health and medical research, innovation and commercialisation.

Eight Fellowships have been awarded as outlined in the table below.

Dr Ianthe Pitout Murdoch University Initial studies of how well a potential new drug for treating motor neuron disease gets to where it needs to act in a living system, and to learn how this distribution affects safety and effectiveness. $145,451
Dr Fillippo Valente Ear Science Institute Australia Preparations for Manufacturing and Clinical Trials of ClearDrum: Pioneering the First Tympanic Membrane Prosthetic Device. $143,316
Dr Tao Wang The Kids Research Institute on behalf of UWA Developing RNA-based immune adjuvants for efficient cancer immunotherapy. $117,684
Dr Bu Yeap The University of Western Australia Developing a new treatment for obesity, diabetes and frailty. $150,000
