Investing in research capability for WA

The State Government's Future Health Research and Innovation (FHRI) Fund has awarded $568,500 through the National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS) Partner Program 2023/24 to the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research (the Perkins) for their Phenomics Australia WA node.
The FHRI Fund investment will leverage approximately $1.5 million in additional funding from the Commonwealth and the Perkins to develop patient derived organoids (PDOs) for use in discovery research and pre-clinical evaluation. The PDOs are being derived from tumour tissue from consented participants stored in the Perkins Cancer Biobank.
The Perkins WA in-vitro node is co-ordinated through Phenomics Australia. As part of a multi-nodal platform the WA node will be able to leverage significant expertise and capability from Phenomics Australia partner institutes across Australia. The capability will fill a gap in the pipeline from discovery to clinical trials and will
ensure WA researchers remain at the forefront of discovery and translation.
