New partnership renews support to fight leading cause of disease burden in WA 15 May 2025 The FHRI Fund has awarded $4.5 million to establish an exciting co-funding partnership with the Cancer Research Trust. Together, the FHRI Fund and the Cancer Research Trust will invest $9 million to provide the WA Collaborative Cancer Research Grants to support teams of multi-disciplinary researchers to collaborate and generate new and important knowledge for cancer control. The program will open for applications later in 2025 and will offer $1 million per year over 5-years with the potential for renewal for an additional four years. The Cancer Research Trust will administer the grant program, with further information to be made available on the Cancer Research Trust website. Million dollar grants available for WA cystic fibrosis research 23 April 2025 Western Australia’s researchers tackling cystic fibrosis research projects are encouraged to apply for grants that provide valuable opportunities to advance cystic fibrosis research towards a potential cure. Applications are now open for the Western Australian Cystic Fibrosis Research Collaborative Program (CFRCP) 2025 — a co-funded partnership between Cystic Fibrosis WA and WA’s Future Health Research and Innovation (FHRI) Fund. Funding injection for early-and mid-career researchers 10 April 2025 A total of $4.8 million has been awarded to 25 Western Australian researchers to boost their chances of success to future funding. The Future Health Research and Innovation (FHRI) Fund’s WA Near Miss Awards (WANMA) Emerging Leaders program is designed to support WA researchers who narrowly missed out on securing a highly competitive National Health Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Investigator Grant funding. WANMA Emerging Leaders funding is provided through an 18-month grant and/or a 3-year fellowship. Emerging Leaders Grants give recipients the opportunity to enhance areas of their NHMRC application that were identified as being improvable, while the Emerging Leaders Fellowships allow the recipients to do the work proposed in their NHMRC application over 3 years.
