Future Health Research and Innovation Fund Open Day 06 June 2023 FHRI Fund July 2023 Open Day to be held in Geraldton, co-hosted by the WA Country Health Service The next WA State Government’s Future Health Research and Innovation (FHRI) Fund 2023 Open Day will be held in Geraldton on 4 July. It is an opportunity for the research and innovation community to hear about funding programs and initiatives that are available in the July funding cycle. It is also an opportunity to hear from distinguished speakers about rural and remote health and medical research more broadly. The event will be coordinated by the Department of Health’s Office of Medical Research and Innovation (OMRI) in partnership with the WA Country Health Service (WACHS). Second FHRI Fund Open Day at Curtin University 31 March 2023 The second Future Health Research and Innovation (FHRI) Fund Open Day was held on Friday 2 March 2023 at the enAble Institute, Curtin University, with over 100 people attending. The event was coordinated by the Department of Health’s Office of Medical Research and Innovation (OMRI) in collaboration with the enAble Institute. Aligning with one of the FHRI Fund Focus Areas, the March Open Day had a theme of Mental Health. Setting researchers up for grant success 31 March 2023 The WA Department of Health Office of Medical Research and Innovation (OMRI) recently collaborated with The University of Western Australia (UWA) to deliver a grant writing workshop for allied health, nursing and midwifery researchers looking to develop their skills in writing and applying for Future Health Research and Innovation (FHRI) Fund research grants. The workshop was held on Thursday 9 March 2023 at the University Club of Western Australia and sold out within a day of being announced. The aim was to break down the process of applying for grant funding and provide tips and advice on how to present a strong case that will set applications apart from others. Breakthrough funding to fuel future NHMRC success 02 March 2023 $4.57 million in funding was recently awarded to 23 early and mid-career researchers under the WA Near Miss Awards: Emerging Leaders 2022 (WANMA) Program. The WANMA Program is designed to support Western Australian researchers who have narrowly missed out on a highly competitive National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Investigators grant. WANMA funding is provided through one-year Emerging Leaders (EL) Grants and 2 to 3-year EL Fellowships. The EL Grants are to be used by recipients to enhance areas of the NHMRC application which were identified by the NHMRC peer review process as being improvable, while the EL Fellowships allow the recipients to do the work proposed in their NHMRC application over 2 or 3 years. Innovative new research training for consumers 02 March 2023 Funding of $573,970 (ex GST) has been awarded to Curtin University through the Consumer and Community Involvement in Research Workforce Advancement program. The program commenced in February 2023, and consists of the design, implementation, and evaluation of a research training suite that is delivered using varied methods collaboratively with participants who are consumers, carers, and researchers, to support co-design data driven research.
